Re-imagining laboratory operations
This laboratory facility was planned, designed and developed to support the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority’s (ALCOSAN) climate resilience charge and re-imagine laboratory operations. Like the details of the water ALCOSAN tests, every detail of this new facility was explored and purposefully designed to enable operational efficiency, laboratory best practices and provide a sustainable and economically smart investment that will continue to serve the region for a long time.
Integrated sustainable design
Focused on enabling ALCOSAN to meet its long-term operational needs, the new Environmental Compliance Facility integrates modular, flexible laboratory design to support changes in testing protocols. Responding to ALCOSAN’s charge as a steward of the environment, the new building is 3 Rivers Proud, integrating many sustainable features such as a green roof, enhanced daylighting and ultra-efficient HVAC systems.
The design of the ALCOSAN Environmental Compliance Facility was featured at the 2022 International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) Conference in Pittsburgh.
“We inaugurated our state-of-the-art Environmental Compliance Facility (ECF) building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This is a significant step forward in our mission to enhance water quality in our region, ensuring a healthier environment for all. We extend a special thank you to AE Works for their invaluable innovation and unwavering support on this journey. Their contribution has been instrumental in bringing the ECF to life.”
