Creating a Hub for Community and Comfort
This first phase, a mid-rise building for 400 beds, includes both shared and single bed configurations. The Ground Floor consists of community spaces such as a flexible multi-purpose room, laundry and recreation areas. Social and study areas are located on the upper levels adjacent to student living spaces.
The central lounges bring the students together while providing excellent views of the city, campus, and surrounding mountains. The L-shaped building also opens onto a generous patio and courtyard space, providing another area for the residents to enjoy and interact with one another.
“WTW’s planning expertise took us to places we never expected. Don’t give up on your dream, WTW [an AE Works company] can make it happen. ”
- Charles Price, Student Union Director, University of Nevada, Reno
Inspired by Context - Connecting the Community and Campus
In keeping with the campus context, patterned brick and cast stone facades, vertical windows and pitched roofs are incorporated into a contemporary composition around study lounges common to each floor. The design incorporates the contextual feel of the University's residential community while implementing innovative and state-of-the-art design. New courtyards, plazas and recreational areas will link the residential community with the campus core.
This project was designed in collaboration with Collaborative Design Studio.
