Regional Office + Nationwide Furniture Standards

Regional Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) offices play an important role in helping Veterans and their families buy homes, earn degrees, start careers, stay healthy, and more. To meet this important mission, this office renovation reorganizes existing space to improve overall functionality, increase call center space, and integrate a wide range of flexible meeting and training spaces.

Our Approach

As the facility welcomes Veterans and their caregivers, refreshed finishes and color palette along with improved wayfinding are central to the design. Murals of local memorials and imagery proudly connect to VBA’s mission and honor the service of Veterans coming to the regional office.

Effectively using the space to maximize the number of workstations while meeting General Service Administration requirements was another important driver for the renovation.  AE Works synthesized the information from collaborative programming discussions and a workplace assessment to develop a design solution that meets VBA's future growth needs and expanded call center capabilities.

In addition to offices, renovations modernize the lobby, exam rooms, meeting and training spaces, director’s suite and IT department. Final design documents include a complete furniture design package.

Impact

In support of this project and VBA’s work throughout the country, AE Works also developed organization-wide furniture specification and design standards. These new furniture specifications include detailed furniture plans and drawings of office workstations, wall systems, and also conference and training rooms complete with scaled renderings and detailed technical specifications. The result is a nationwide standard that streamlines procurement processes and supports a consistent design throughout all facilities.
