Towson University, Student Union
The project vision for Towson University was to transform its outdated 1970s student union into a ‘next generation’ Student Life Center while maintaining on-going operations.
The renovated Union is the new campus 'living room' where students gather consistently to utilize the aspects of the upgraded facility.

Built
A Central Hub
The design team was focused on creating an open, student-centric facility that enhances the campus and utilizes flexible spaces that address the University’s current and future needs.
Central to this goal was creating a multi-story space that anchors the daily user experience, enabling students, faculty, visitors and alumni to better understand the spectrum of services and programs housed within the facility.
Exterior Revitalization
The exterior was fully transformed to present a bold new landmark with increased transparency, vibrancy, and inviting architectural form.
Designed to Meet Student Needs
Phasing was one of the keys to the success of this project. The first phase of expansion was designed to provide flexible new dining and meeting spaces that would come on-line well before the existing operations were shut down for extensive renovations in phase two.
The entire facility now totals at 250,000-GSF and includes new dining and retail operations, expanded meeting facilities, a new ballroom, a 300-person theater, and expanded offices for organizations, Student Activities and Student Affairs.
This project was designed in collaboration with Design Collective.
